The Unexpected Kitchen Ingredient That Keeps Aphids Off Your Plants
An Unexpected Kitchen Hero to Keep Aphids Away from Your Plants
Forget about chemical products – the trend in gardening now leans towards natural solutions that are effective, cost-efficient, and eco-friendly. And guess what? Your kitchen holds the key ingredient to fend off aphids and safeguard your precious plants: garlic.
Garlic, a Surprising Aphid Deterrent
To ward off aphids and other pesky garden invaders, all you need is a humble clove of garlic. Its pungent aroma acts as a natural repellent, while its sulfur content provides added protection against common fungal diseases like downy mildew and powdery mildew.
Homemade Aphid Repellent Recipe
You can easily whip up your own garlic concoction following these simple steps:
- Chop 500g of garlic.
- Simmer the garlic in 5 liters of water for 20 minutes.
- Let the mixture sit away from light for 24 hours.
- Strain the mixture and pour it into a spray bottle.
For extra potency, consider adding rapeseed oil to the mixture.
Application Tips
Once your homemade insecticide is ready, spray it liberally on both sides of the leaves of your affected plants every 3 to 4 days. Remember, the garlic scent needs to be consistently present to repel aphids effectively. You can also use the mixture as a soil-enriching watering solution. Just be sure to store it in a cool place and use it within 2 weeks to maintain its potency.
