David, a 14-year-old boy, endured a heartbreaking loss as he witnessed the death of both his parents within a short span. His father, Kenneth Lowery, tragically died in a scuba-diving accident just three weeks after his mother succumbed to cancer.
The father-son duo embarked on their annual scuba-diving trip to Florida, sticking to tradition despite their recent loss. Tragedy struck during their excursion off Juno Beach when they chartered a boat and ventured into the waters.
Around 9 a.m., they set off with the Republic IV charter boat. Just 50 minutes later, David resurfaced alone, calling out for help. Despite rescue efforts by Jupiter police and the Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission, Kenneth’s lifeless body was found shortly after.
Kenneth, who was dive-certified and on the brink of becoming a diving instructor, heroically pushed his son to safety before drowning himself. David recounted the harrowing experience to his brother, revealing his desperate attempt to save his father.
Though divorced, Kenneth and his wife maintained a close relationship. Even after their separation, Kenneth supported his wife through her battle with cancer, earning admiration from his former mother-in-law, Kelly Bezayiff.
David now grapples with the immense grief of losing both parents within weeks. Our thoughts and prayers are with him and his family during this difficult time.
