“This relationship is done… even if you transformed into a model, I wouldn’t touch you!” David ridicules his wife, Megan, and abandons her for his assistant. However, soon enough, destiny flips the script and David faces the repercussions of his behavior.
The scent of cooking spices wafted through the room as Megan arranged the table with a cocktail, roast chicken, and all of David’s favorite dishes. “Just right!” she smiled to herself.
“David, you’re home!” Megan greeted.
“What are you wearing? You look awful in that!” David scoffed.
“Oh, why? Don’t you like it, dear? It’s our fifth anniversary today,” Megan murmured softly. “Did you forget?”
“Of course not,” he replied curtly.
A glimmer of hope lit up Megan’s eyes. She thought he had bought tickets to Paris since she’d always wanted to spend Christmas there.
“I have something for you,” he announced, pulling an envelope from his pocket.
Tears welled up in her eyes as she moved forward. “I thought these were the Paris tickets… what is this?”
The harsh word—DIVORCE—pierced her eyes. “Tell me it’s a joke…” Megan whispered, tears flowing down her cheeks.
David’s laugh echoed like a sinister growl. “I don’t have time for jokes. Because… I despise you.”
“Why?” Megan asked, her voice barely a whisper.
“Why?” David sneered. “Just look at yourself in the mirror… you’ll see why.”
“We can work this out,” she begged, her voice breaking.
“Just pack and leave today. I’m done with you,” he snapped.
“David, please… we can see a therapist together. Maybe fix this. I love you…” Megan chased after David, trying to prevent him from packing.
“Therapist?” he scoffed. “You’re the one who needs help, not me!”
David turned away and walked through the hallway with his bag. “I don’t owe you explanations. This marriage is over. I’m finally free,” he said, heading to the door.
“Please, David. Don’t leave me,” Megan cried.
“No time for your nonsense, alright?” David brushed past Megan. “Besides, someone is waiting for me in the car,” he added with a cruel glint in his eye.
Megan choked out, “David, who is it? Why are you doing this to me?”
“Look at yourself, Megan,” David mocked. “You’ve let yourself go. That secretary of mine, Jessica, is always fit and stunning.”
“You were… cheating on me?” Megan stammered, tears streaming down her face.
“Bingo!” David exclaimed, eyes shining with delight. “Two tickets—one for me and one for the life I deserve.” He grabbed his suitcase and opened the door.
“And don’t forget to sign the divorce papers!” David’s voice echoed as he left Megan in silence.
This isn’t the end, Megan whispered to herself. As the day went on, she gathered her wedding photos and mementos, placed them in a metal bucket, doused them in gasoline, and set them on fire.
A sharp knock at the door startled her. It was her best friend, Veronica. “What’s wrong with you, Meg?” she barked. “I’ve been calling all week.”
“He’s gone,” Megan said, the words tumbling out painfully. “Left me for another woman.”
“David? Well, not shocked, Meg,” Veronica said. “He’s a jerk! I warned you, didn’t I?”
“You were right,” Megan replied. “But how do I move on?”
“Honey,” Veronica said, sounding worried, “…you look awful. You need help. Stop thinking about that cheater.”
“It’s not that easy, Veronica. I loved him,” Megan said, leaning on Veronica’s shoulder. “What do I do now?”
“You pick up the pieces, sweetheart,” Veronica smiled, “…and find happiness that doesn’t depend on someone else’s approval.”
“How can I do that?” Megan asked, brokenhearted.
Veronica took Megan’s phone and, with a mischievous smile, installed a dating app and created a profile. “You deserve happiness… not mourning over some guy who left you,” she said, handing the phone back to Megan.
That night, lying on the couch, Megan opened the app, feeling a flutter of nerves.
“Hi, you look beautiful!” a message appeared, making Megan’s heart race. She was just out of the shower, wrapped in a towel with under-eye patches on.
Panicking, Megan shut down the app and tossed the phone onto the couch.
“Did I scare you off?” a voice asked as Megan’s face appeared on the screen.
“It’s… okay,” she replied. “I’m just not used to this.”
“Neither am I,” he laughed. “But maybe we can get used to it together?”
The man introduced himself as Robert. “Call me Rob!” he said, extending his hand.
“Megan,” she replied. “Friends call me Meg!”
“Nice to meet you, Meg!” Robert continued as Megan felt herself floating. “You have a lovely smile,” he added.
“First time here… accidentally clicked a button. Next thing I know, I’m streaming live!” Megan laughed, embarrassed.
“How about I make it up to you?” he asked, eyes sparkling. “Dinner tonight?”
“Yes,” Megan replied, heart pounding.
Robert’s smile widened. “See you at eight, then, at La Café Bean.”
After a hot shower, Megan dressed carefully, letting her natural beauty shine with minimal makeup and jewelry.
As she reached for the doorknob, David walked in.
“Moving day, dear,” he said coldly. “Going somewhere tonight?” he asked.
“Just… out,” Megan stammered, clutching her purse.
“Signed the papers yet?” he demanded.
“It’s in the other pocket,” Megan said, trembling.
Megan’s phone buzzed with a message from Robert. “Are you done here?” she asked David.
“Moving on already?” he sneered. “You think I wouldn’t notice this… sudden makeover?”
David lunged forward. “Get this straight,” he snarled. “No matter who you find, they’ll leave. You’re boring and ugly.”
“You’re wrong,” she whispered. “I may be broken, but I’m not ugly.”
David grabbed her necklace, snapping the chain. “That was my wedding gift,” Megan said, shocked.
“Consider it rent. Like our marriage. Paid for, used, and discarded!” he sneered before slamming the door shut.
Tears blurring her vision, Megan picked herself up, called a taxi, and headed to La Café Bean.
Once there, she saw the empty table and panicked. “Have you seen… my date? Rob?”
“He just left, miss,” the waiter said.
Just as she was about to lose hope, Robert appeared with a bouquet of lilies.
“Megan, I’m so sorry for embarrassing you,” he said. “I had to get these for you.”
She sneezed, spraying pollen everywhere. “Hey, you could have told me you’re allergic to flowers,” Robert said, concerned.
“It’s okay. I couldn’t refuse such a sweet gesture,” Megan replied, smiling.
“So, tell me about yourself. What do you do?” Megan asked.
“I’m a doctor,” Robert smiled. “And I can tell you that you’re allergic to those lilies.”
“Take them away, please,” he told the waiter.
Megan laughed, and Robert asked why. “It’s a long story,” she said. “But I guess I needed to see a doctor!”
Her phone buzzed with a GIF of roses. “Couldn’t leave you without flowers,” Robert said, his eyes twinkling.
“Tell me everything about you,” he said. “Your dreams, your fears, your wildest stories.”
Megan spoke of her past, her broken heart, and how meeting Robert changed her belief in true love.
After their date, Megan admired Robert’s photo on her phone, feeling a happiness she never knew existed.
Months later, Megan was in a restaurant when she heard a familiar voice.
“Megan!”
David stood there, a reminder of her past.
“Hi, David,” she said, forcing a smile.
“Megan. You look… great,” he said.
“I’m doing well,” Megan replied. “And you?”
“Jessica and I… we’re separating,” David admitted.
“I’m sorry,” Megan said.
“Don’t be. I deserved this. Leaving you… was the biggest mistake of my life,” David confessed.
“Please, Megan,” David pleaded. “Give me another chance.”
Before Megan could respond, a man’s voice interrupted. “Can I help you?”
David’s eyes widened. “Who are you?” he asked.
“I’m Rob, Megan’s fiancé!” Robert said.
The words hit David hard. “Actually, David, Rob and I are getting married soon,” Megan said.
“Ready to go, beautiful?” Robert asked.
“Yes, let’s go, honey. See you, David!” Megan smiled and left with Robert.
Megan locked her hand in Robert’s and walked away, leaving David with his regrets and lost happiness.
