Orchids are truly marvelous plants, especially when they bloom, adding an elegant touch to any corner of our homes. However, these delicate flowers require the right tricks and proper use of fertilizer to flourish – more precisely, a specific fertilizer.

Nourishing them and keeping them in their best presentation is a categorical imperative; we can only respect and preserve such beauty.

To achieve this, we need to provide these plants with the necessary elements, specifically:

  • Nitrogen: to promote foliage development
  • Phosphorus: to strengthen them against pest attacks
  • Potassium: to support the formation of new buds

While there are many commercial products containing all these elements, they often come with added chemicals. Mother Nature, however, provides us with a truly fantastic, economical, safe, effective, and straightforward remedy.

Fertilizing Orchids Naturally for Beauty and Blooms

Orchids are unique plants, and not all fertilizers contribute to their well-being and flowering. Some may even have the opposite effect, suffocating their roots with an excess of unnecessary nutrients.

To ensure our orchids thrive and continue to bless us with their wonderful blooms, it’s essential to be cautious about what we add to their environment.

In nature, there’s an ingredient that naturally contains nitrogen, phosphorus, and potassium in perfectly balanced quantities: rice. Additionally, rice grains contain starch, which slows down nutrient absorption, providing continuous but not excessive nourishment.

You can create a highly effective natural fertilizer in two different ways.

  1. Boil the rice: Filter the cooking liquid, let it cool completely, and then use it to water your orchids.
  2. Blend it: Cook rice as usual, let it cool, and then blend it into a jelly-like substance. Dilute this mixture in the water you use for watering and distribute it in the pots. Be mindful not to overdo it.

Repeat these procedures twice a month to ensure well-nourished and rich soil for your plants. They will reward you with magnificent and vibrant flowers!
